ExamTool
A custom exam hall system that automates student check-in, seating assignments, and attendance tracking at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
About ExamTool
ExamTool is an internal software solution developed for The Hague University of Applied Sciences to modernise the exam hall process. Previously, student check-ins and seating assignments were managed through outdated and error-prone Excel sheets. The goal of ExamTool was to replace this workflow with a faster, more reliable system that reduces manual work, improves accuracy, and gives exam coordinators real-time insight into attendance during exams.
What We Did
We collaborated closely with new designers on the UI/UX and took full ownership of the development phase. We designed and built a system that automatically imports student data, eliminating manual data entry entirely. We also implemented a scanning flow where students check in by scanning their student card—similar to a supermarket checkout—after which they instantly see their seat number and colour on a screen. At the same time, the system registers arrivals in real time, giving exam staff live insight into attendance, late arrivals, and no-shows. The software was successfully tested during pilot exams with over 300 students, where the application ran smoothly and proved its value in a real exam setting.
